Chick-Fil-A still anti-gay
Numerous media sources are incorrectly reporting that Chick-Fil-A has announced it will no longer donate to anti-gay hate groups. This is 100% false and has not been confirmed by any sources.
What actually happened was a Chicago politician threatened to block the building of a Chick-Fil-A in his district until they changed their anti-gay ways. Let’s put aside the fact that this is completely unconstitutional and would be struck down by any court.
The politician wanted Chick-Fil-A to add a non-discrimination policy to their employee handbook and stop funding anti-gay groups. The politician is now claiming a victory, but neither one of these things actually happened.
Here’s what did happen. Chick-Fil-A agreed to send a memo out to all employees stating they will ”treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender. ”
In respect to funding organizations they said they are “now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.”
Chick-Fil-A would not confirm to the Chicago Tribune about whether or not it would discontinue funding anti-gay groups and responded by emailing a statement similar to the one they are going to put in the memo, a statement they had previously made on their Facebook page back in July, before Dan Cathy made his ugly statements.
So, whilst the media and a Chicago politician are claiming this to be a “victory,” in reality, absolutely nothing has happened. Except for the fact that Chick-Fil-A is now welcome to build a new store in Chicago and the anti-gay bigots have been whipped into a frenzy, denouncing Chick-Fil-A on their Facebook page.
